Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson could leave Manchester City this summer, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reported on Tuesday, as he is evaluating transfer options with his new agent, former Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar, and is in talks with Saudi Arabia.
Ederson, 31, played for Ribeirao Preto, Rio Ave, Benfica and other teams. He joined Manchester City for 40 million euros in July 2017 to start his Premier League career. To date, he has played 365 times for Manchester City, kept 164 clean sheets, and won 1 Champions League, 1 Club World Cup, 6 Premier League titles, 1 European Super Cup, 2 FA Cups, 4 English League Cups and 3 Community Shield titles.
As for the national team, Ederson has played 23 times for Brazil, keeping 13 clean sheets and winning the 2019 America's Cup with the team.
Ederson was close to joining Saudi giants Jeddah United last summer, but the deal fell through because Manchester City insisted on asking for 50 million to 60 million euros. The Brazilian's contract with Manchester City will expire in June 2026, and he has missed two consecutive games due to a hip injury.
Florian Plettenberg went on to point out that Manchester City has begun looking for Ederson's successor. They regard the 25-year-old Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa as a key signing target, and transfer negotiations are underway.
On the backup goalkeeper seat, 32-year-old Stefan Ortega also faces a decision to stay or go. In order to gain more playing time, the German goalkeeper does not rule out seeking a transfer opportunity this summer. His current contract with Manchester City will also last until June 2026.
