Ipswich Town officially announced that 26-year-old Irish center back Dara O'Shea will serve as the team's captain for the new season, taking over the captain's armband and leading the team in the upcoming 2025-26 season.
O'Shea joined Ipswich Town from Burnley last summer and performed well in his debut season. Not only did he make 37 appearances in all competitions, he also won the club's Player of the Year award for his consistent performance.
O'Shea has played in place of the captain on several occasions during the 2024-25 season and has now been officially appointed as the team's full-time captain, which is well deserved. Speaking about his new role, Darrah said: "I am extremely honored to be the captain of Ipswich Town."
"This is a club with so much history and to be able to follow in the footsteps of so many great predecessors is a proud moment for me and my family."
O'Shea particularly mentioned the influence of veteran captain Sam Murthy on him: "Playing alongside Sam over the past year, I have learned a lot about how to take on this important responsibility. I am also very grateful to the coach for his trust in me. He is an important guide in my growth process."
O'Shea is full of confidence for the upcoming new season: "We have a group of talented and motivated players, and everyone is ready to go all out. I will be proud and responsible and devote myself to it every time I step onto the court."
With the captaincy now finalised, Ipswich Town have officially entered the rhythm of preparation for the new season. Under John O'Shea's leadership, the team will strive to achieve further success in the Championship and continue the good momentum of last season.
