Knicks hire St. Joseph's University coach Billy Langer to coaching staff

Langer, who was about to begin his seventh season at Saint Joseph's, had an 81-104 record during his tenure, but he had won 20 or more games in each of the past two seasons and led the team to consecutive NIT appearances. In 2024 and 2025, he not only led the team to competitive play but also saw forward Rasher Fleming become the first Saint Joseph's player to enter the NBA draft since 2016.
Before succeeding Phil Martelli at Saint Joseph's, Langer served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA for six years. He also served as the head coach at the Naval Academy for seven seasons and served as an assistant to Jay Wright at Villanova University twice, bringing him extensive coaching experience and player development background.
The Knicks officially appointed two-time Coach of the Year Mike Brown as their new head coach in July. Brown quickly assembled his coaching staff, and the addition of Langer will undoubtedly strengthen the team. New York had previously signed former Charlotte Hornets assistant Chris Gent and former G League Birmingham Central coach TJ Saint.
As Brown gradually improves the coaching staff, the Knicks are continuing to increase their competitiveness in the Eastern Conference in the new season.
