Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral said in a post-match interview that the team failed to perform to their full potential, particularly making crucial defensive errors that led to the opponent's goal. He noted that although the team created some opportunities on offense, they failed to capitalize and ultimately failed to turn the tide of the game.  

After the game, Marcelino said: "Barrios scored very early, and although it had a big impact on the game, we did not change our strategy because of it. Considering the situation at the time, it was indeed a big blow, but I think the team quickly adjusted and recovered well."  

"In fact, we created several scoring chances in the first half. We started the second half well, and just when we were controlling the tempo of the game, they scored the second goal. Atlético Madrid played very well, although we made some mistakes that we should have avoided. They also had several dominant moments in the game and controlled the situation more effectively than we expected."  

"The key to defeating Atletico Madrid was accuracy in our finishing, and we didn't have that. Alberto Molero and Nicolas Pepe both created chances, but unfortunately we couldn't capitalize on them."  

"When I made the substitutions, I was exploring various solutions. Frankly, with the score at 2-0, I thought about the game against Tottenham. We have to take into account that some players have just returned from injury and some have just finished their international duty.  

"Furthermore, given the lack of midfield strength and attacking firepower at the time, we made corresponding adjustments. Ultimately, our failure to capitalize on opportunities in both halves, coupled with the loss of the second goal, dealt the team an irreparable blow."
