Feyenoord confirmed on Thursday that 31-year-old England winger Raheem Sterling has joined the club on a free transfer. The two sides signed a five-month contract, valid until June 30, 2026.
This move to Feyenoord means Sterling will return to the pitch after a two-week layoff. He negotiated a contract termination with Chelsea in January due to limited playing time.
Besides Chelsea, Sterling also played for Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal. To date, he has made 599 club appearances, scoring 182 goals and providing 134 assists, winning four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, five League Cups, and one Community Shield.
After completing the signing, Sterling said: "As a free agent, I have the opportunity to take control of the next step in my career again after many years. I hope to spend some time communicating fully with the clubs and their managers to better understand the role they envision for me and ensure that I can create real value in this new journey. "
“After in-depth discussions with CEO Denis Teklose and Robin van Persie, I believe Feyenoord can make me happy and allow me to be an important part of the team. Playing abroad is a completely new challenge for me – and I am ready to embrace it. To be honest, I can’t wait to start a new journey.”
Sterling concluded by saying, "I am very grateful to Feyenoord, especially Robin and Dennis for their patience and professionalism throughout the transfer process."
