Wolves defender Totti Gomes said during pre-season training in the Algarve, Portugal that he is fully committed to preparations and is gradually taking on a more important leadership role in the team.

Gomes told Wolves' official website: "Everything is going well. We started the physical test in Wolverhampton and then the team gathered in Portugal. The weather here is hot but suitable for training. We train twice a day and everyone is doing their best to prepare for the new season."

Although the training intensity is high, Gomes believes that preparing in a hot environment will make the team more competitive at the start of the season. Gomes admitted that the process is not easy, but because of this, the team will be better prepared than others.

As the squad changes, Gomes is aware of his rising role within the team. He captained the team for the first time in the final away Premier League game of last season and continues to lead by example.

Talking about his role in the team, Gomes said: "Some leaders have left the team and now we need someone to step up. I and players like Jose Sa and Doherty must take more responsibility to help young players integrate and set an example."

"I have always liked to speak on the field, but my voice was not loud before. Cody is my first captain, and he often told me that as a central defender, I must command the overall situation. We can see the whole game clearly in the backcourt, so we must be good at communication. Wearing the captain's armband is an honor and a responsibility. I will continue to work hard to become a trustworthy leader of the team."
