Marcelino: Although the team created some offensive opportunities, the opponent's strength limited our performance.

In the first round of this season's Champions League group stage, Villarreal lost 0-1 to Tottenham Hotspur. After the game, coach Marcelino García Toral said that although he accepted the result of the game, he did not think the defeat was entirely justified based on the overall performance of the game.

Marcelino said after the game: "Losing is always disappointing, especially after looking back on the whole game. Although this defeat seems a bit unfair, football is ultimately a contest of goals, and Tottenham seized one more chance than us this time."

"I'm very proud of the quality the team showed in the game and our overall performance on this stadium. We did leave with regrets not being able to take away even a single point. But in football, what you gain today can be fleeting."

"I'm very proud of the team's overall performance. We showed great composure and discipline in the first two games, but that composure was a little lacking in the next two games. We created some great scoring opportunities, but the opponent's quality limited us. What really makes me regretful is that the final score did not fully reflect our efforts and opportunities."

In addition, the Villarreal coach also questioned some of the referee's decisions in this game, especially the yellow card decisions. He said: "We all saw the yellow cards. For the second yellow card (when Mikautadze was brought down as the last player with the ball), the referee did not give any reasonable explanation, which I really cannot understand."

"An international referee with experience in the Champions League did not show a red card for such an obvious foul. As for the first yellow card (Simmons' second yellow card), the situation was also very clear. He did not have the opportunity to touch the ball, but he was directly shown a red card. We can only accept this decision."
