According to Michael Scotto, Brian Lewis and other reporters on Tuesday, the Brooklyn Nets have officially waived Keon Johnson. The news was later confirmed by the Nets, who wrote in a brief farewell statement: "Thank you, Keon."

Keon Johnson, 23, was the 21st overall pick in the 2021 first round and has primarily played shooting guard throughout his career. Last season, he played 79 regular-season games for the Nets, averaging a career-best 10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.0 steal in 24.4 minutes per game.

Including data from his first season, Keon Johnson played a total of 84 games in his two years with the Nets, averaging 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 38.9% and a three-point shooting percentage of 31.6%.

For the Nets, cutting Keon Johnson was partly due to salary considerations. Johnson's contract was worth $2.349 million, of which only $272,000 was guaranteed. If he stayed until the regular season opener, his guaranteed salary would increase to $761,000.

The Nets' move also opens up potential playing time for Keon Johnson. With the Nets already signing restricted free agent Cam Thomas and the addition of several first-round draft picks, Johnson's playing time is expected to decrease significantly next season. The Nets also acquired shooting guard Kobe Buffkin from the Atlanta Hawks this week, further squeezing his playing time.

Prior to joining the Nets, Keon Johnson played for the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers. According to ESPN, he played 77 games for both teams, averaging 5.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, while shooting 36.2% from the field and 34.3% from three-point range.
