The Netherlands narrowly defeated Lithuania in a 2-3 away win in the 2026 FIFA World Cup UEFA qualifiers at the Dariaus ir Girėno Stadionas on Sunday.

In the first half, Depay scored from close range, Timber shoved the ball into the net from close range from a difficult angle, and Geneitis volleyed home. In the second half, Girdvainis and Depay each scored with headers. Ultimately, the Netherlands narrowly defeated Lithuania with a 2-3 away win. After this round of matches, the Oranje still leads Group G with 10 points; Lithuania is currently fourth with 3 points.

First Half

In the 11th minute, Cody Gakpo crossed into the box from the left byline at the left wing. Upon receiving the pass, Memphis Depay pushed the ball into the lower center of the net from a very close distance in the box with his right foot. The Netherlands broke the deadlock early to an early 0-1 lead! With this goal, Depay, who scored his 50th international goal, officially broke the record and became the Oranje's all-time leading top goalscorer!

In the 25th minute, Donyell Malen made a straight pass from the front. Quinten Timber quickly followed up, got the ball and took with a few steps before firing a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net from a very close distance in the box. The Netherlands extended their lead to 0-2!

10 minutes later, Lithuania launched a deadly counterattack. Justas Lasickas passes horizontally from the left side of the box. Gvedas Geneitis quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed the ball into the bottom right corner from the center of the box with his left foot. Lithuania pulled a goal to 1-2! This was the second consecutive game that the Torino wonderkid had scored!

In the 43rd minute, Lithuania was awarded a deadly free kick opportunity. Genettis took the free kick  by crossing it into the box from outside the penalty area. Edvinas Girdvainis rose high and scored with a header in the box. Lithuania quickly scored two goals in quick succession, equalizing the Netherlands at 2-2!

At the end of the first half, Lithuania and the Netherlands were temporarily drew 2-2 as they went into the half-time break.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 63rd minute, Denzel Dumfries crossed into box from the right wing. Depay rose high and headed it home, scoring his second goal of the game, giving the Netherlands a 2-3 lead.

Seven minutes later, Micky van de Ven made a straight pass from the left. Cody Gakpo stopped the ball, cut inside and adjusted his angle before making a powerful right-footed shot from the left side of the box. Unfortunately, his shot hit the crossbar and bounced out, the Netherlands missed a golden opportunity for another goal!

In the 72nd minute, Timber made a long pass from his own back half. After successfully beating the offside trap, Donyell Malen, quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the box before pushing the ball into the bottom left corner of the empty net after maliciously pushing down the chasing Rokas Lekiatas. However, the referee immediately blew his whistle and disallowed Malen's goal due to the foul!

When the final whistle is blown the match, the Netherlands narrowly defeated Lithuania with a 2-3 away win.
