Real Betis defeated Lyon 2-0 on matchday 4 of the UEFA Europa League League Phase match of the 2025/26 Europa League season at Estadio de La Cartuja on Thursday.

In the first half, Abde scored from close range, and Antony added another by chipping the goakeeper. The second half saw little action from either side. Ultimately, Real Betis won 2-0 against Lyon. After this round of matches, Real Betis sits in 9th place with 8 points, while Lyon sits in 7th with 9 points.

First Half

In the 29th minute, Marc Roca passes horizontally from the front, and Abde Ezzalzouli quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the left side of the box before volleying with his left foot at a difficult angle, but his shot was saved by Dominik Greif.

Giovani Lo Celso immediately took the corner for Real Betis by crossing it into the box. Cedric Bakambu headed it across before Abde quickly following up and slotting the ball into the bottom left corner of the net a with a right-footed shot from very close distance in the box upon receiving the pass to give Real Betis a 1-0 lead! This is the former Barcelona's Morocco international winger's fifth goal of the season!

3 minutes later, Roca passes horizontally from near the midfield center circle. Antony quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the right side of the box, before volleying with his right foot, but his shot went just slightly wide of the bottom left corner of the post.

In the 34th minute, Roca delivered a precise long pass from his own back half. After beating the offside trap, Antony quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbling into the center of the box before chipping the ball into the the top right corner of the empty net with his left foot, extending Real Betis' lead to 2-0! This is the former Manchester United winger's 15th goal for Los Verdiblancos in all competitions! 

9 minutes later, Khalis Merah passes horizontally from the left wing. Tanner Tessmann got the ball and took a few steps before taking a left-footed long shot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was saved by Álvaro Valles.

In the 44th minute, Merah passes horizontally from the left wing. After stopping the ball and adjusting his angle, Enzo Molebe took a right-footed long shot from outside the penalty area, but his shot was saved by Valles.

At the end of first half, Real Betis is already leading Lyon 2-0 by at the halftime break.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 48th minute, Khalis Merah intercepted the ball and dribbled into the left side of the box before volleying with his right foot, but his shot which went just slightly wide of the right post.

In the 60th minute, Lyon launched a quick counter-attack. Pablo Fornals made an error while clearing the ball in his own back half. Mathys de Carvalho intercepted the ball and took a few steps before taking a right-footed long shot from outside the penalty area, but his shot was saved by Valles.

9 minutes later, Nicolás Tagliafico crossed into the box from the left wing. Ainsley Maitland-Niles quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from the right side of the box, but his shot hit the top of the net and went just slightly over the crossbar.

In the 74th minute, Antony passes horizontally from the right wing, Pablo Fornals got the ball and took a few steps before taking a right-footed long shot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was saved by Greif.

1 minute later, De Carvalho was brought down in the penalty area by Ruben Kluivert, but the referees refused to award Real Betis a penalty and also refused to punish Kluivert, sparking controversy!

When the final whistle is blown, Real Betis defeated Lyon 2-0.
