Leicester City Football Club announced that Matti Cifuentes has officially taken over as first team head coach. The 43-year-old new head coach has signed a three-year contract with the club.  

Leicester City chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: “We are delighted to welcome Matti Cifuentes to Leicester City. Throughout the search process we have been impressed by his energy, ambition and clear coaching philosophy.  

"We firmly believe that his arrival will drive the club forward in achieving our shared goals. His personal qualities and professional abilities are highly aligned with the club's values and will help shape a team that fans can be proud of."  

Head coach Marty Cifuentes said: “It is a huge honour to be appointed head coach of Leicester City. This is a club with a rich history and great success and I am proud to be part of writing its next chapter.”  

“I look forward to getting to know the players and building deep connections with our fans and city in the weeks and months ahead. I feel the passion here and I’m excited to embark on this new journey with you all.”  

His coaching experience at Queens Park Rangers has been impressive. Since taking over as head coach in October 2023, he has successfully led the team from the relegation zone of the Championship to 18th place, and won five of the eight games at the end of last season, significantly improving the team's performance. He then continued to drive the team's progress last season.  

Prior to moving to England, the Catalan coach had a successful career at Hammarby in Sweden, leading the team to the Swedish Cup final and qualifying for the European Cup. He was also widely praised for significantly improving the team's performance and completely changing the tactical style during his time at Sandefjord in Norway.  

Martí Cifuentes has coached in Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark and the United Kingdom, accumulating diverse tactical concepts and coaching experience, which have further consolidated his reputation in professional football.
