Portugal's Record exclusively reported on Sunday that Sporting Clube de Portugal's Sweden international center forward Viktor Gyökeres' relationship with the club has completely reached a freezing point because he believes that the club's President has gone back on his word and violated his promise to allow him transfer this summer.

According to the report, Gyökeres has quietly deleted all mentions of him being a "Sporting CP player" from his personal social media accounts' profile column a few days ago, and he no longer responds to any matters related to the club.

Journalist pointed out that the reason why the former Coventry City player's relationship with the club suddenly deteriorated so much is mainly related to Sporting CP President Federico Varandas.

Sporting CP actually promised last summer that as long as there is a club willing to pay his €100 million release clause, they will not prevent Gyökeres from leaving the club.

In January, after former head coach Rúben Amorim moved to Manchester United, Varandas said that the club might be willing to accept an offer lower than the €100 million buyout clause to facilitate Gyökeres' transfer, but the target offer must not be less than €60 million.

After that, his Turkish-Swedish agent Hasan Çetinkaya determined that as long as there was a club willing to submit an offer of €60 million, Gyökeres could transfer.

However, as July was approaching, because Gyökeres still had not transferred, the player and Çetinkaya began to become anxious and repeatedly approached Varandas to understand the situation.

Unexpectedly, Varandas told them that he had never said that Gyökeres' buyout clause had been reduced to €60 million, and since the end of the season, no club had submitted any offer, and the rift between the three became bigger and bigger.

It is reported that both Çetinkaya and Gyökeres believe that Varandas deliberately deceived them and betrayed them and did not keep his promise. The latter even threatened to go on strike from now on and no longer represent Sporting Clube de Portugal in any form until the transfer is completed.

Finally, the report also added that Arsenal is still paying attention to the follow-up developments of this incident and considering making an offer at the right time.

However, Manchester United, which has been the most frequently rumoured since January, gave up the idea of signing Gyökeres due to financial constraints and the fact that it had just signed Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has never considered signing the player.

Whether he eventually moves to the Premier League or not, the relationship between Gyökeres and Sporting CP seems to have no possibility of turning around.

The 27-year-old Gyökeres was born in Stockholm, Sweden on June 4, 1998. He is 1.87 meters tall. He primarily plays as a center forward, but he can also play as a winger. He has dual citizenship of Sweden and Hungary.

Gyökeres joined the Aspudden-Tellus youth academy when he was 12 years old, moved to the Brommapojkarna youth academy 4 years later, and completed his Brommapojkarna first-team debut in August 2015.

After his debut, Gyökeres quickly demonstrated his super high scoring efficiency and helped the club win the Swedish Superettan once.

In January 2018, Gyökeres joined Brighton for €1 million, but was only arranged to play in cup competitions. During this time, he was also loaned-out to St. Pauli and Swansea City successively.

In January 2021,Gyökeres joined Coventry City on-loan with an option to buy basis.

In July last year, Gyökeres joined Sporting CP for €20 million.

Since becoming a member of Leões, so far, Gyökeres has played 102 times for Sporting CP in all competitions, scoring 97 goals, assisting 28 times, and won the Portuguese Primeira Liga twice and the Taça da Portugal once with the club.
