According to a report by veteran NBA reporter Jack Fisher on Sunday, the Sacramento Kings are about to begin shopping their players. They are willing to listen to offers for all players except Keegan Murray and Nick Clifford.
The Sacramento Kings currently sit 14th in the Western Conference with a 4-13 record, just one game ahead of the bottom-ranked New Orleans Pelicans. Despite the early stages of the season, management's focus has shifted to a long-term rebuild.
TA reporter Sam Amick also revealed earlier this month that the Kings are interested in trading Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Malik Monk. Fisher further pointed out that LaVine, DeRozan, and Sabonis are all potential trade targets, but the expected returns are relatively limited.
Domantas Sabonis was once considered the Kings' most valuable trade asset, but Derek Fisher has reservations. According to Fisher's analysis, Sabonis's $95 million salary over the next two years, coupled with his defensive shortcomings, reduces his appeal in the trade market; and Kings owner Vivek Ranadive's preference for him further reduces the likelihood of him leaving the team.
Compared to Sabonis, LaVine is more likely to be traded. However, his departure is contingent on him giving up his $48.9 million player option for next year and signing a lower-salary long-term contract.
Fisher also learned that 25-year-old Keon Ellis is one of the Kings' most valuable trade assets. Since joining the Kings in 2022, he has played 169 regular season games, averaging 6.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, with a field goal percentage of 47.5% and a three-point percentage of 42.9%.
As for Murray and Clifford, both are considered absolutely indispensable to the Kings' future rebuilding plan. Murray signed a 5-year, $140 million contract extension this summer, while Clifford is a promising rookie the Kings selected 24th overall in the first round.
