With goals from Stanisic, Olise, Gnabry, Jackson, and Musiala, German giants Bayern Munich secured a resounding 6-1 victory over Atalanta in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie. Manager Kompany stated that Olise is a very detail-oriented player and he aims to further develop the striker's abilities.
In the 12th minute, Gnabry crossed the ball into the box, and Stanisic slotted it home, giving Bayern Munich a 1-0 lead. In the 23rd minute, Upamecano played a diagonal pass, and Olise received the ball, broke through to the edge of the penalty area, and fired a long-range shot into the net, extending Bayern Munich's lead over Atalanta to 2-0.
Just three minutes later, Olise assisted Gnabry to score, making it 3-0 for Bayern Munich. In the 52nd minute of the second half, Diaz passed the ball to Jackson, who slotted it home to extend Bayern Munich's lead to 4-0. In the 64th minute, Alphonso Davies crossed the ball, Olise controlled it, took a few steps, and then fired a long-range shot into the net, making it 5-0.
In the 67th minute, Jackson dribbled past the defense in the penalty area and crossed the ball, which Musiala volleyed into the net, extending Bayern Munich's lead to 6-0. In stoppage time of the second half, Pasalic volleyed home from close range, pulling one back for Atalanta to 1-6.
Ultimately, Bayern Munich defeated Atalanta 6-1 away from home, laying the foundation for advancing to the Champions League quarterfinals.
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said, "He came here with a mindset that gives him the opportunity to become one of the best players in the world because he pays great attention to detail in everything he does."
“I don’t really want to compare players because everyone is different. But I played with De Bruyne and was fortunate enough to witness his growth from a young player to a superstar. He had an almost obsessive attention to detail back then, and Olise has that quality too.”
Kompany emphasized, "This is certainly not enough, and we need to motivate him to do more, but he is currently on a very good development track."
Reflecting on the performance against Atalanta, Kompany said, "I'm certainly very satisfied. This is exactly the kind of performance we wanted to show, and we could have even scored one or two more goals. Our team has a lot of talent and ability, and the players enjoy playing in games like this. Our training intensity is very high, which helps us find good solutions in matches, so this performance doesn't surprise me."
“But I don’t want to say too much about injuries. We can’t lose our current momentum. We have a lot of confidence in our roster. Alphonso Davies may be out for a while, hopefully not too long. But with the depth of our squad, we can handle it.”
