Timberwolves' defensive tradition continues as they look back at their best shot-blocking season in franchise history

August 21st : The Minnesota Timberwolves have been known for developing outstanding defensive post players since drafting Kevin Garnett in 1995. The team has not only produced MVP and Hall of Fame star Garnett, but also has a top defender in contemporary Rudy Gobert.

1. Kevin Garnett
The 2003-04 season was Garnett's peak year. Not only did he win the regular season MVP award , he also demonstrated complete dominance on both offense and defense. Garnett averaged 24.2 points and led the league in rebounding with 13.9 rebounds per game, while also contributing 2.2 blocks and 1.5 steals, providing a complete defensive presence. His blocked shots ranked 11th in the league , making this one of the most dominant defensive performances in Timberwolves history.

2. Rudy Gobert
In his second year in Minnesota, Gobert had his best season since joining the team. The 7-footer averaged 2.1 blocks per game and won his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award for his outstanding rim protection. He also averaged 14 points and 12.9 rebounds per game that season.

3. Kevin Garnett
In his second season in the league, the 20-year-old Garnett exploded. His scoring average soared from 10.4 points per game in his rookie year to 17 points, earning him his first All-Star selection. He also averaged 2.1 blocks per game, ninth in the league. That season, he was one of only five players to average both 17 points and two blocks per game, putting him on par with powerhouse big men like Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, Alonzo Mourning, and Shaquille O'Neal.

4. Eddie Griffin
Although Griffin's career was cut short by an accident, he demonstrated remarkable defensive potential in his limited time. In the 2005-06 season, he averaged only 19.4 minutes per game but blocked 2.1 shots. Despite starting just 27 of his 70 games , his rim protection was impressive.

5. Darko Milicic
As the second overall pick in the star-studded 2003 NBA Draft, Milicic's career has been marked by controversy. However, he experienced a brief burst of brilliance during the 2010-11 season with the Timberwolves. He averaged two blocks per game that season, including seven in a single game against his former team, the Detroit Pistons .
