Crystal Palace officially announced that Croatian international Borna Sosa has officially joined the club, and the two sides have signed a three-year contract until 2028. The 27-year-old left-wing defender has excellent offensive and defensive conversion capabilities and can play an important role at both ends of the game. He became the team's second new signing after the first signing this summer.
In the past four years, Borna Sosa has played 26 times for the Croatian national team and scored 2 goals. As an experienced international, he started five of the seven games in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, helping Croatia to win the third place, showing a stable competitive state and experience in major competitions.
Born and raised in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, Borna Sosa made his mark in his hometown club Dinamo Zagreb in 2015. Just one year later, he won the domestic league and cup double with the team, and completed an outstanding performance for 90 minutes in the 2016 Croatian Cup final, demonstrating his outstanding talent and maturity.
In May 2018, Borna Sosa officially transferred to the Bundesliga Stuttgart Football Club. During his time with the club, he fully demonstrated his defensive ability and offensive creativity as a full-back. In 115 games for the club, he delivered 35 assists and 5 goals, including 10 assists in the 2020-21 Bundesliga season, becoming an important fulcrum for the team's offense.
The Croatian player moved to Ajax in September 2023 and made 25 appearances in domestic leagues and European competitions. He was then loaned to Serie A club Torino last season, during which he played 20 games for the team and continued to accumulate experience in the top five leagues.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said: "We firmly believe that Borna Sousa is a great fit for the team. He has a rich resume and international experience and can bring strength, depth and experience to our squad. His joining will undoubtedly further enhance the team's competitiveness and I am very much looking forward to his arrival in South London."
Borna Sousa said: "I am very happy to join Crystal Palace. I have heard a lot of positive comments about the club and I can't wait to meet my teammates, the coaching staff and all the fans. I am very excited to be here."
“The Premier League is widely regarded as the most competitive league in the world, with countless exciting matches. I am very much looking forward to being able to experience the atmosphere and the high intensity and pace of Premier League games in person.”
“I’ve also heard a lot of comparisons between the Premier League and the Bundesliga because there are some similarities in the playing styles. So I’m really looking forward to experiencing the pace and intensity of the games first-hand. I want to see what it’s like in an actual match because every Premier League game is almost like a carefully choreographed performance when you watch it on TV.”
"He told me a lot of positive things about the Crystal Palace fans. He mentioned that the fans are very passionate and the atmosphere in the stadium is extremely exciting.
"As a player, I love attacking, crossing, and I also like all kinds of changes and rhythm in the game. I hope to bring unforgettable moments to the fans during my time at the club."
"I want people to remember me as a player who always gave his all and gave everything for the club. Because in my opinion, that's the most important thing. Every player has ups and downs, but the key is whether you give your best. Usually, this attitude brings positive results."
All at Crystal Palace warmly welcome Borna Sosa to the Club and wish him all the best in his career at Crystal Palace.
