German Cup – Kane scores a penalty and Diaz adds another, Bayern Munich defeats RB Leipzig 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals.

In the 2025/26 German Cup quarter-final, Bayern Munich hosted RB Leipzig at home. They ultimately defeated their opponents 2-0, advancing to the semi-finals after six years.

Just four minutes into the game, RB Leipzig took the initiative and launched an early attack: Jan Diomand dribbled past several defenders on the right wing and delivered a lobbed pass, which Christoph Baumgartner followed up with a sliding shot to score. However, after reviewing the VAR video replay, the referee ruled Baumgartner offside, and Bayern Munich escaped a close call.

After that, Bayern, having regained their composure, gradually gained the upper hand. In the 12th minute, Luiz Diaz crossed from the left, and Harry Kane, after shaking off his defender in the penalty area, fired a shot that was saved by Marten van der Walter. In the 18th minute, Bayern took a corner from the left, which was cleared off the line by their own Aleksandr Pavlovic. Diaz, unmarked on the rebound, then fired a shot over the crossbar. In the 21st minute, Michael Olise crossed from the left, and Kane, arriving at the far post, volleyed the ball over the bar again.

In the 37th minute, Antonio Nusa and Davide Raum combined to break into Bayern's penalty area, but Raum's final shot was saved by Manuel Neuer with one hand. In the 6th minute of first-half stoppage time, Olise's corner kick from the right was headed towards goal by Kane at the far post, but it was also blocked by Van der Walter.

After the break, Bayern continued their attack on RB Leipzig. In the 58th minute, Josip Stanišić crossed from the right side of the penalty area, and Serge Gnabry's powerful shot forced a save from Van der Walter. In the 62nd minute, Dayo Upamecano delivered a precise long pass from the back, and Stanišić was brought down by Van der Walter in the penalty area, earning a penalty. With Kane converting the penalty, Bayern finally broke the deadlock in the 64th minute.

In the 67th minute, Bayern quickly extended their lead to 2-0: Olise's long pass from midfield linked up with Diaz's run, and Diaz slotted home a one-on-one chance. Neither side managed to score again, and Bayern ultimately won at home by two goals.
