Girona announced on their official website on Wednesday that Marseille's Spanish backup goalkeeper Rubén Blanco has joined the club on a free transfer.
According to the La Liga club's official statement, Blanco has signed on a short-term contract which will only run until the end of the season.
Blanco's arrival solves the immediate problem where loanee Marc-André ter Stegen will be sidelined for several months with an injury.
The Germany international goalkeeper, who is onploan from Barcelona, suffered a hamstring injury during his second appearance for the club, facing the challenge of recovering in time for the end of the season and securing a place in Die Mannschaft's World Cup squad this summer.
About Rubén Blanco
The 30-year-old Rubén Blanco was born on July 25, 1995, in Mos, Galicia, Spain. He is 1.89 meters tall and plays as a goalkeeper.
Blanco joined non-league club Santa Mariña's youth academy at a young age, and in 2010, joined Celta Vigo's youth academy, started playing for their B team two years later and completed his Celta Vigo first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in May of the following summer.
During his nine-year spell with O Celtiña, o helped the club reach the Europa League semi-finals once.
In July 2022, Blanco was loaned-out to Marseille, with his ownership rights being permanently bought out for €2 million the following summer.
During his three-and-a-half-year spell with Les Olympiennes, Blanco has only made 12 appearances for the Ligue 1 powerhouse in all competitions, conceding 9 goals and keeping 4 clean sheets.
