Real Oviedo announced on its official website on Monday that its Spanish head coach Luis Carrión has been sacked effective immediately.

According to Real Oviedo's official statement, the club expressed its gratitude to Carrión and his assistants for their professional over the past two months and wished them all the best for the future. The search for a new head coach is in underway.

Rumours about Carrión's successor are rampant, with some media outlets speculating that former Sevilla head coach Eduardo Berizzo is a leading candidate.

AS reports that former Pachuca head coach Guillermo Almada is considered the president's top choice.

Real Oviedo is currently in discussions with Real Valladolid, who Almada now manages, regarding his severance package.

It is worth mentioning that Carrión is the second head coach to be sacked by Real Oviedo this season.

Two months ago, Serbian coach Veljko Paunović, who helped his club achieve promotion back to La Liga after many years, was also sacked due to poor performance.

Real Oviedo, playing with 10 men, suffered a humiliating 0-4 defeat to Sevilla at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, extending their winless streak to two months.

After the match, angry fans threw objects at the players' airport shuttle as they left in protest.

The 46-year-old Carrión rose to prominence while coaching Espanyol Feminino from 2011 to 2013, leading the club to a surprise Copa de la Reina title win.

He later coached Córdoba twice and took over as Real Oviedo's head coach for the first time in 2023. During this time, Carrión led the club to the Segunda División promotion playoffs.

In the summer of 2024, Carrión was appointed head coach of Las Palmas, but after a nine-game losing streak at the start of the season, he was sacked in early October of the same year.

This October, Carrión returned to Real Oviedo to replace the aforementioned Paunović.

However, since taking over, Carrión has struggled to secure a single victory, marking his second consecutive instance of being sacked less than six months while coaching in La Liga.
