Liverpool secured a dramatic late 0-1 away win against Inter Milan in Tuesday's on Tuesday on matchday 6 of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League season at the San Siro.
In the first half, Konaté's header was ruled out. In the second half, Bradley's close-range shot was saved, and Szoboszlai converted the penalty. Ultimately, Liverpool secured a 0-1 away win against Inter Milan. After this round of matches, the absence of Mohamed Salah has not only had no impact but has actually improved the Reds' performance, moving them up to 8th on the table with 12 points; I Nerazzurri are currently in 5th place with 12 points.
First Half
In the 18th minute, after picking up the loose ball, Curtis Jones took a few steps before taking a right-footed long shot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was saved by Yann Sommer.
14 minutes later, Liverpool earned a corner opportunity. Dominik Szoboszlai took the corner by crossing it into the box. Hugo Ekitike headed it across before Ibrahima Konaté scored with a header from a very close distance in the box. Second Half
Both teams switched sides as the match continued. in the 65th minute, Inter Milan launched a quick counter-attack. Manuel Akanji intercepted the ball and made a straight pass. Marcus Thuram got the ball, dribbled and cuts inside before taking a right-footed long shot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot went just slightly wide of the bottom right corner of the post.
Shortly after, Inter Milan earned a corner opportunity. Federico Dimarco took the corner by crossing ball into the box. His pass was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by Ryan Gravenberch. After picking up the loose ball, Barella took a right-footed follow-up shot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot flew high out of the pitch.
In the 80th minute, Ekitike played made a straight pass from the right wing. Conor Bradley quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before volleying with his right foot at a difficult angle from a very close distance in the box, but his shot was blocked by Sommer's outstretched leg.
4 minutes later, after Ekitike launched an overhead diagonal pass from the attacking third. Florian Wirtz was brought down from behind by Bastoni while scrambling for the ball in the penalty area. The VAR assistant referee immediately intervened. The referee himself went to the sidelines to review the VAR and confirmed that although the force was slight, the evidence of Bastoni pulling down Wirtz was conclusive, thus awarding Liverpool a penalty!
Dominik Szoboszlai converted the penalty with his right foot, finally securing a 1-0 victory for Liverpool! This is the Hungary national team captain's 20th goal for the Reds in all competitions!
