Atlético Madrid came from behind to defeat Real Madrid 5-2 on matchday 7 of the 2025/26 La Liga season at the Metropolitano Stadium on Saturday, winning El Derbi Madrileño.

In the first half, Le Normand scored with a header, Mbappé and Güler volleyed and scored, before Sørloth scored with a header. In the second half, Alvarez converted a penalty and a free kick. Griezmann slotted home a crucial goal, ultimately securing Atlético Madrid a 5-2 comeback victory over Real Madrid. After this round, despite Los Blancos suffering their first defeat of the season, they still hold on to top spot with 18 points, but are only two ahead of Barcelona. Los Los Colchoneros is currently in fourth place with 12 points.

First Half

In the 14th minute, Giuliano Simeone crossed into the box from the right wing. Robin Le Normand rose high and scored with a header from a very close distance in the box. Atlético Madrid broke the deadlock early and took a 1-0 lead!

11 minutes later, Arda Güler made through diagonal pass from the right wing. After successfully beating the offside trap, Kylian Mbappé quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the right side of the box before volleying the ball into the bottom left corner foot of the net with his right foot, equalizing the scoreline at 1-1. This was Mbappé's eighth league goal of the season!

In the 36th minute, Vinícius Júnior made an overhead back pass from the edge of the left side of the box. Arda Güler quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, half-volleyed the ball, volleyed into the bottom right corner of the net from the center of the box with his left foot. Real Madrid led Atlético Madrid by 1-2!

3 minutes later, Nico González passes horizontally from the left wing. Julián Alvarez stopped the ball and adjusted his angle ball before taking a right-footed long shot from outside the penalty area. Unfortunately, his shor hit the bottom right corner of the post and bounced off! Real Madrid missed a golden opportunity to equalize the scoreline!

In the 44th minute, Atlético Madrid was awarded a corner kick. Alvarez took the corner by crossing it into the box. The ball hit Clément Lenglet's elbow and went into the net, but the goal was immediately disallowed by the VAR assistant referee!

In the third minute of first-half stoppage time, Koke crossed into the box from the left wing. Alexander Sørloth rose high and scored with a header in the box, bringing Atlético Madrid drew level with Real Madrid at 2-2!

At the end of the first half, Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid were tied at 2-2 going into half time.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 49th minute, González was brought down by Güler while pressing for a high ball in the box. The referee immediately blew his whistle to award Atléti a penalty! Alvarez took the penalty and fired home with his right foot, giving Atlético Madrid a 3-2 lead again!

10 minutes later, Atlético Madrid was awarded a free kick. Alvarez took the free kick from outside the penalty area and fired a right-footed shot, which went just wide of the top right corner of the post.

In the 62nd minute, González passes horizontally from the front, Sørloth quickly followed up and upon receiving the ball, volleyed with his left foot from the center of the box, but his shot was saved by Thibaut Courtois.

A minute later, Atlético Madrid secured a deadly free kick opportunity. Alvarez took the free kick from outside the penalty area and fired it directly into the top left corner, scoring his second goal of the match and leaving Courtois unable to reach it, thus extending Atléti's lead to 4-2!

In the third minute of injury time, Alex Baena made a straight pass from the front. Antoine Griezmann quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, pushed the ball into the bottom corner of the empty net with his right foot from the center of the box, past the outrushing Courtois, Atlético Madrid sealed the victory with 5-2!
