Borussia Dortmund defeated Köln with a late 1-0 win on the matchday 8 of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday.

In the first half, Dortmund's numerous attempts on goal were fruitless. In the second half, Guirassy's close-range half-volley was saved brilliantly. In the crucial moment, Beier scored on the rebound. In the end, Dortmund defeated Köln with a late 1-0 win. Following this round of matches, BVB are currently third on the table with 17 points, while Köln is in eighth place with 11 points.

First Half

In the third minute, Köln launched a quick counterattack. Jakub Kaminski intercepted the ball and made a straight pass from the left wing. Said El Mala quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into into the left side of the box before volleying with his a left foot, but his shot went just slightly wide of the bottom left corner of the post.

In the 19th minute, Marius Bülter intercepted the ball and made a through ball from near the midfield center circle. After successfully beating the offside trap, El Mala quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the center of the box before striking the ball with his right foot against the outrushing Gregor Kobel, but his shot went just slightly wide of the bottom right corner of the post.

In the 34th minute, Julian Ryerson passes horizontally from the right wing. Karim Adeyemi got the ball, dribbled and cuts into the box before striking the ball with his right foot from a difficult angle at a very close distance in the box against the Marvin Schwäbe, but his shot was blocked by the latter's leg.

3 minutes later, Serhou Guirassy passed back from the front. Felix Nmecha quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a right-footed long shot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot went just slightly wide of the bottom right corner of the post.

At the end of the first half, Borussia Dortmund and Köln temporarily enter the halftime break with a goalless draw.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 52nd minute, Adeyemi passes horizontally from the right side of the box. Upon receiving the pass, Serhou Guirassy half-volleyed the ball with his right foot from a very close distance in the box, but his shot was spectacularly saved by Schwäbe in front of the goal the line. Borussia Dortmund missed a golden opportunity to break the deadlock!

9 minutes later, Guirassy passed back from the center of the box. Nmecha quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from the center of the box, but his shot was spectacularly saved by Schwäbe.

In the 65th minute, Ramy Bensebaini crossed into the box from the left wing. Nico Schlotterbeck rose high and attempted with a header in the box, however his effort was saved by Schwäbe.

In the 77th minute, Dortmund was awarded a free kick. Julian Ryerson took the free kick from outside the penalty area and shot directly with his right foot, but his shot was saved by Schwäbe.

In the 90th minute, Bensebaini passes horizontally from the left wing. Julian Brandt quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a right-footed long shot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was blocked by Kristoffer Lund.

In the sixth minute of injury time, Waldemar Anton headed the ball across. Upon receiving the pass, Fabio Silva half-volleyed with his right foot from the center of the box. His shot was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by Dominik Heintz. Upon picking up the loose ball, Maximilian Beier striked the ball into the bottom right corner of the net with a right-footed follow-up shot from the left side of the box to finally break the deadlock and secure the victory for Dortmund!

Shortly afterwards, Guirassy passes horizontally from the front. Fabio Silva quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from the right side of the box, but his shot ball was blocked by Schwäbe's leg.

When the final whistle is blown, Borussia Dortmund defeated Köln with a late 1-0 win.
