Charlton defender Cody risked his life to block a shot, falling into a coma and being taken to the hospital where he was found to be unharmed and has since been discharged.

In Monday night's Championship match where Charlton drew 1-1 away to Watford, 33-year-old Charlton defender Conor Cody was hit in the head by a powerful shot during stoppage time, and fell unconscious on the spot.

After a lengthy on-field emergency treatment, Cody was secured on a stretcher and carried off the field, then rushed to a local hospital. This match marked the former England international's 500th club appearance.

Fortunately, Charlton Athletic later released a statement confirming that Cody underwent a series of brain scans, all of which showed normal results, and he was discharged from the hospital that evening. The club specifically thanked the Watford medical team for their assistance in the statement and stated that the medical team will continue to monitor his recovery according to protocol.

Cody later posted a smiling photo on social media to reassure fans: "I'm on my way home, your support means a lot to me." His heroic act also earned the respect of both coaches.

Charlton manager Nathan Jones praised Cody for disregarding his body and head to block a whistling shot. Watford manager Ed Steele emphasized that player safety is far more important than the ball itself.

Cody, a veteran who joined Charlton on loan from Wrexham in January, has made nine appearances for Charlton and scored one goal. He is now out of danger, and fans are hoping for a full recovery so the defender can return to the pitch soon.
