Besiktas officially announced on Thursday that it has parted ways with 53-year-old coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with immediate effect.
The announcement read: "Following a resolution at a board meeting, we have terminated the contract with head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer."
"After the meeting, our chairman Serdar Adali expressed his gratitude to Solskjaer for his contribution so far in a meeting."
Solskjaer officially took over as Beşiktaş manager earlier this year on a one-and-a-half-year contract. He led the team to a record of 10 wins, 4 draws, and 4 losses in half a season, ultimately finishing fourth in the Turkish Super League with 62 points.
Beşiktaş started the season with a 2-1 victory in the first round, but their form has since plummeted, with them being eliminated by Shakhtar Donetsk 6-2 in the Europa League qualifiers and then drawing with Lausanne-Sport in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League play-offs.
Beşiktaş was officially eliminated from the European competition after losing 0-1 to Lausanne Sport at home today. Various signs indicate that this defeat was the direct trigger for Solskjaer's dismissal.
Prior to becoming Besiktas' manager, Solskjaer previously coached Molde, Cardiff City, and Manchester United. According to Transfermarkt, he won one Norwegian Premier League title and one Norwegian Cup with Molde, and also led Manchester United to three Champions League appearances and two Europa League titles.
