Bruno Fernandes confirmed on Tuesday that he will remain at Manchester United next season. His contract with Manchester United will last until 2027, with an option for a further year.
Bruno Fernandes, 30, has played for Novara, Udinese, Sampdoria and Sporting CP, and moved to Manchester United for 65 million euros in January 2020. He mainly plays as a front midfielder for Manchester United, and has made 290 appearances so far, scoring 98 goals and providing 86 assists, winning the FA Cup and the English League Cup with the team.
Last week, it was reported that Al-Hilal was planning to spend 100 million pounds to bring Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United and offer him a four-year contract with an annual salary of 25 million euros after tax. Bruno also considered the possibility of joining Al-Hilal and sent his agent to Saudi Arabia for negotiations.
After repeated consideration, Bruno finally decided to reject the offer from Al-Hilal. He said at the pre-match press conference against Germany on Wednesday: "The chairman of Al-Hilal called me a month ago and asked if I was interested in a transfer. I spent some time thinking about the future. As I have always said, if Manchester United thinks a transfer is the best option, I am willing to accept it."
Bruno then added: "I communicated with Ruben Amorim and he persuaded me very seriously to give up the transfer. The club also said that they would not sell me unless I took the initiative to leave the team."
"The chairman's proposals were extremely ambitious and he was a very good man. I never mentioned money and my agent took care of it."
“I had to work with my family to figure out what I wanted for the future. My wife never gave me a clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ and always supported me and prioritized my career development.”
“Joining Crescent was an easy decision for me, even on a family level. Crescent has two of my good friends, Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo, and my children are used to playing with their children. However, I want to maintain a high level of competition and continue to compete in the top leagues. I am confident in my current abilities.”
Bruno concluded: "I want to continue to be happy doing what I love most. I am still passionate about football. I am very happy that I made the decision to stay."
