Celta Vigo announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has renewed the contract of its Sweden international left winger wonderkid Williot Swedberg.
According to Celta Vigo's official statement, Swedberg has signed on a new long-term four-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2029.
About Williot Swedberg
Swedberg, 21, was born on February 1, 2004, in Stockholm, Sweden. He is 1.85 meters tall, and primarily plays as a left winger, but can also play as an attacking midfielder. His father, Hans Eskilsson, and mother, Malin Swedberg, are both retired former Sweden international forwards. After his parents' divorce, he took his mother's surname.
As a child, Swedberg played for the youth academy of non-league club Sickla. He joined Hammarby's youth academy at the age of seven and was loaned-out to Hammarby's satellite team, Trej, in the summer of 2020.
Upon returning from his loan spell in January of the following year, Swedberg began playing for Hammarby's reserve team and completed his Hammarby first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in July 2021.
Following his debut, Swedberg's outstanding performances quickly attracted the attention of clubs known for developing young players, such as Brentford, Brighton, and Red Bull Salzburg.
He even agreed to join Lokomotiv Moscow, but the move fell through due to the Russo-Ukrainian war.
In June 2022, Swedberg joined Celta Vigo for €5 million, becoming Hammarby's most expensive player to leave the club.
Since joining O Celtiña, Swedberg has made 62 appearances for the La Liga club in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 8 assists.
