Champions League - Martinelli scores as Arsenal beat Olympiacos 2-0


The second round of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League ushered in another focus battle. Arsenal, at the Emirates Stadium, relied on goals contributed by Martinelli and Saka to finally defeat Olympiacos 2-0.


Three minutes into the game, Arsenal organized an attack. Lewis Skelly passed the ball from the left and Martinelli headed the ball in the penalty area, but the ball went wide of the post.


In the 12th minute, Odegaard made a straight pass, Dzekeres took a low shot but the ball hit the post, and then Martinelli made a follow-up shot to help Arsenal take the lead 1-0.


In the 20th minute, Olympiacos attempted a counterattack. Chikinho passed the ball back from the right and Daniel Podence volleyed in the penalty area, but the ball was saved by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. In the 31st minute, Zikeres received Odegaard's through ball and entered the penalty area and shot with a diving shot, but the ball went over the goal.


In the 41st minute, Arsenal created another offensive opportunity. Dzekeres received the ball and broke through the defense to shoot, but the ball was kicked high.


In the 54th minute of the second half, Merino made a diagonal pass into the penalty area, and Trossard's shot went wide. In the 58th minute, Arsenal replaced Merino and Ben White with Rice and Timber respectively.


In the 61st minute, Martin Subimendi brought down Gelson Martins while battling for the ball, earning him a yellow card. In the 66th minute, Daniel Podence lobbed a cross into the box, prompting Ayoub Kaabi to head the ball in, but it was saved by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. Chiquinho then found the net with a follow-up shot, but VAR ruled out the goal due to Ayoub Kaabi being offside.


In the 74th minute, Gabriel was injured and was replaced by Mosquera after treatment. In the 82nd minute, Eze created an attacking opportunity. Saka broke into the penalty area and passed the ball back. Odegaard immediately stepped forward to shoot, but was saved by Olympiacos goalkeeper Tsourakis. Odegaard then made another shot but it was blocked.


In the second half stoppage time, Odegaard passed the ball directly into the penalty area, Saka received it and shot it in, helping Arsenal extend their lead to 2-0.


In the end, Arsenal beat Olympiacos 2-0 at home.
