Champions League – Vinicius Jr. scores twice as Manchester City are eliminated 1-2 by Real Madrid


In another key match of the second leg of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Premier League giants Manchester City, despite conceding a goal and Bernardo Silva receiving a red card, ultimately lost 1-3 to Real Madrid thanks to a goal from Haaland.


Real Madrid started the match aggressively, with Valverde receiving a lobbed pass from Vinicius near the penalty area and unleashing a shot, but Manchester City goalkeeper Donnarumma made the save. In the 3rd minute, Manchester City winger Doku passed back from the penalty area to Arnold, and Rajan Sergić's shot was blocked by Real Madrid goalkeeper Courtois.

In the 78th minute, Rajan Serki chipped the ball over the defense, and Ait Nouri headed it into the net, but the goal was disallowed again for offside.


In the 82nd minute, Vinicius received the ball and shot, but it was blocked by Manchester City goalkeeper Donnarumma. Valverde then followed up and scored, but Vinicius was offside, so the goal was disallowed. In stoppage time of the second half, Chuameni chipped the ball into the box, and Vinicius slotted it home, extending Real Madrid's lead to 2-1.


Ultimately, Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 2-1 and advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals with a 5-1 aggregate score.
