Legendary winger Ángel Di María to leave Benfica when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Former Argentina legendary international winger Ángel Di María announced on his personal Instagram account on Sunday that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Di María made the above statement after Benfica could only draw 1-1 with 10-man Braga in the Portuguese Primeira Liga on Sunday (May 18).

The former Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Manchester United star wrote in the statement: "After such a long year, it is really painful to end this way."

"This is my last league game in this jersey and I am proud to wear it again."

"There is another final on Sunday (May 25) (Taça de Portugal - against city rivals Sporting CP), we will go all out and win with all our belief and desire."

On the other hand, in response to online rumours constantly claiming that Di María has agreed to join Inter Miami as a free agent, the news has been refuted by CBS Sports' resident renowned transfer correspondent Ben Jacobs.

He said that Inter Miami had never approached Di María, not to mention that the team's designated player (DP) registration quota had already been used up, as such rumours claiming that Di María had reached an agreement with the Major League Soccer (MLS) have always been fake news that netizens wishfully believed.
