Sebastian Hoeneß, Deniz Windav and Luca Jacques shared their thoughts on the team's performance in the 2-0 victory over Mainz.
Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß said after the match: "It was an intense and competitive game, as expected. Our early goal was crucial and helped the team control the tempo of the game. We started very well, but we relaxed a little after taking the lead, which allowed the game to become open again."
“We didn’t play fancy football, but a stable, united and focused game. The players regained their rhythm, created more chances, and took one of them to extend the lead to 2-0. Advancing to the next round is our goal and the most important thing.”
Deniz Wendav said: "This victory was well-deserved. Luca Jacques' early goal gave us tremendous confidence, and the team's defense was very solid. Our whole team gave their all and ultimately won through unity. I'm happy for Atakan Karazor, whose second goal was decisive. After that, we remained highly focused and gave the opponent almost no chances, which was also key to the victory."
Luca Jacques said: "We are very happy to win this game and advance to the next round. Set pieces are always a key part of the game, and our first goal was scored through this. The whole game was fast-paced and intense, and we put in a lot of effort. Next, we need to recover well and be fully prepared for the away game against Leipzig on Saturday."
