Exclusive: Jesus interested in leaving Arsenal and may return to Brazilian football in January

According to an exclusive report by British media FootballTransfers on Saturday, Brazilian center Gabriel Jesus is considering leaving Arsenal. Arsenal is also open to his transfer, provided that a suitable offer is received.

The 28-year-old Jesus came through the Palmeiras youth system and moved to Manchester City for €32 million in January 2017. He played for Manchester City for five and a half seasons, making 236 appearances, scoring 95 goals and providing 45 assists, winning four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four League Cups, and two Community Shields.

In July 2022, Jesus joined Arsenal for 52.2 million euros. So far, he has played 96 times for Arsenal, contributing 26 goals and 20 assists.

Jesus has been sidelined since January due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He is expected to return to the field at the end of this year, but will face unprecedented competitive pressure.

With the arrival of Victor Zikeres from Sporting CP this summer, Jesus' role in Arsenal's tactical system has been further weakened. Even if he moves to the wing, he will have to compete with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and others for playing time.

Jesus' omission from Arsenal's European squad has fuelled speculation he is not in Mikel Arteta's plans, with a January transfer window increasingly likely despite his current contract running until 2027.

If he chooses to leave in January, Jesus would prioritize a return to the Brazilian league, believing the potential deal is highly feasible and would help him gain more attention from Brazil national team coach Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Jesus has played 64 times for the Brazilian national team, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists, winning the 2019 Copa America with the team. However, he has not been called up to the national team since November 2023.

Flamengo is currently closely monitoring Jesus's movements. West Ham United and Everton have also made preliminary inquiries to Arsenal, believing that Jesus can bring Champions League-level strength and diverse forward tactical options to the team.
