Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, exclusively reported Thursday in his official paid column that Liverpool has decided not to sell Italy international forward Federico Chiesa this summer.
Romano stated in his column that Chiesa initially considered leaving the club due to the numerous injuries he has suffered since joining the Reds, the club's summer signings, and the fact that next year will be the year of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico, as he sought more consistent playing time.
However, following the tragic death of legendary Portugal international forward Diogo Jota in a car accident and the departures of former teammates Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez, Chiesa suddenly changed his mind and decided to stay and fight for his position and the team.
Two weeks ago, Chiesa personally informed head coach Arne Slot that he had no intention of leaving the club this summer. Having noticed Chiesa's efforts during recent training sessions, Slot decided to give him the opportunity to prove himself starting as a super-sub.
He certainly capitalized on that opportunity, scoring the third goal in the Reds' 4-2 victory over Bournemouth in their Premier League opener.
It's worth noting that while Chiesa had previously expressed a desire to leave, Romano denied rumours that his relationship with Liverpool had soured due to a lack of playing time.
On the contrary, both sides have maintained a cordial relationship, and his teammates have been very supportive of Chiesa's recovery from injury.
To honour Chiesa's wishes, and given Slot's belief that he is as important player as Luis Díaz, Liverpool has decided to keep Chiesa on the books this summer.
Even if after they have successfully signing Alexander Isak before the summer transfer window close, the Reds have no plans to change their plans.
Regarding the rumours surrounding Isak, Romano insisted that Liverpool will not be deterred by Newcastle United's public criticism of the player, who had accused them of reneging on their promise to allow him to leave this summer.
After the Magpies sign one or two replacements for the Sweden international striker, Liverpool will still attempt to submit another record-breaking bid for Isak, exceeding their previous £120 million offer.
Meanwhile, three-way negotiations between the Reds, Crystal Palace, and Marc Guehi is still ongoing.
Throughout this entire time, Liverpool has been the only team in discussions with Crystal Palace regarding a transfer for the England international defender.
Rumours online wich claimed that Tottenham Hotspur is also actively negotiating with the Eagles are fake news.
About Federico Chiesa
Federico Chiesa, 27, was born in Genoa, Italy, on October 25, 1997. He is 1.75 meters tall and primarily plays as a left winger, but can also operate as a right winger, center forward, or attacking midfielder. His father, Enrico, is Fiorentina's legendary center forward and a former Italy international player. His younger brother, Lorenzo, is also a professional footballer, who is currently playing for Sampdoria.
Chiesa joined the youth academy of Settignanese, a local non-league club in Florence, at the age of five. He joined Fiorentina's youth academy at the age of ten and completed his Fiorentina first-team debut in August 2016.
Since his debut, Chiesa has quickly garnered acclaim for his outstanding performances, attracting the attention of several major Serie A clubs.
In October 2020, Chiesa joined Juventus on a two-season loan with an obligation to buy.
During this spell, Chiesa rose to prominence after his impressive performances in the European Championship, helping the Italian national team win the championship. Unfortunately, he subsequently fell out of favour due to injuries caused by a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Despite this, he still won the Coppa Italia twice and the Supercoppa Italiana once with the club.
In August 2024, Chiesa joined Liverpool for €13 million.
Since joining the Reds, Chiesa has been plagued by injuries. Although he has only played 15 times for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing two assists, he has still won the Premier League once and reached the Carabao Cup final and the Champions League round of 16s with the club.
