Fernandinho announces his retirement: It's time to enjoy life with my family.

Former Brazilian international and Manchester City legend Fernandinho officially announced his retirement on Wednesday, ending his 22-year professional career.

According to Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte, Fernandinho confirmed his retirement decision during a charity match. When asked about the possibility of returning to professional football, he immediately gave a clear answer: "I'm tired. I only ran for about 30 minutes today and I felt extremely exhausted. My football career has been very fulfilling, and nothing can motivate me anymore. I've enjoyed everything I could. Now it's time to enjoy life with my family."

The 40-year-old Fernandinho came through the youth academy of Athletico Paranaense and made his professional debut for the first team in the Brazilian Serie A on April 8, 2003. He then played for Shakhtar Donetsk and Manchester City, making a total of 667 appearances, scoring 79 goals and providing 89 assists. He won one UEFA Cup, six Ukrainian Premier League titles, four Ukrainian Cup titles, three Ukrainian Super Cup titles, five Premier League titles, one FA Cup title, six English League Cup titles, and one Community Shield title.

In July 2022, Fernandinho returned to Atlético Paranaense as a free agent. He made 117 appearances for Atlético Paranaense, but did not play for the team again after they were relegated to Serie B last year. On January 1st of this year, the two sides parted ways upon the expiration of his contract.

Fernandinho also made 53 appearances for the Brazilian national team, including two World Cups (2014, 2018) and two Copa Americas (2015, 2019). He contributed 2 goals and 5 assists for Brazil and helped the team win the 2019 Copa America.
