On the evening of December 16th local time, the FIFA annual awards ceremony was officially held in Doha, Qatar. Paris Saint-Germain striker Ousmane Dembélé was ultimately named the 2025 FIFA World Player of the Year thanks to his dominant performance.
According to the official announcement, Dembele won the selection with a high score of 50 points. Barcelona attacker Lamin Yamar and Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé ranked second and third with 39 and 35 points respectively.
The 28-year-old Dembele made 53 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain in the 2024/25 season, scoring 35 goals and providing 16 assists. Paris Saint-Germain thus achieved a 'quadruple' feat, winning the Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and Coupe de France in a single season.
As for individual accolades, Dembele had already won the Ligue 1 Golden Boot, Ligue 1 Player of the Year, and UEFA Champions League Player of the Year awards. Following his Ballon d'Or win in September, his selection as FIFA World Player of the Year was entirely expected.
Besides Dembele, Paris Saint-Germain reaped numerous accolades at this event: Luis Enrique, the Spanish manager who led the team to their first Champions League title in the 2024/25 season, was rightfully named Men's Coach of the Year. Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, now with Manchester City, was named Men's Goalkeeper of the Year, whose performance last season, with 17 clean sheets in 47 appearances, was instrumental in PSG's quadruple victory.
