Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Brazilian winger Savinho is close to signing a new contract with Manchester City.
"Rico Lewis and Nico O'Reilly have already renewed their contracts... Savinho is close to an agreement and Ruben was close to one before that," Guardiola said. "We will do everything we can to show the player that the club wants him to stay. We will do the necessary work so that he stays. I'm very happy about that."
The 21-year-old Savinho came through the youth academy of Atlético Mineiro and joined Manchester City from Troyes for £30.8 million in July 2024. To date, he has made 53 appearances for Manchester City, scoring four goals and providing 13 assists, winning one Community Shield title with the team.
With his increasingly impressive performances, Savinho was identified as one of Tottenham Hotspur's key transfer targets this summer. Spurs made a bid of around £42 million, but it was rejected as it fell below Manchester City's expectations. Sources suggest City's valuation of Savinho is closer to £69 million.
Speaking about Tottenham's offer, Guardiola said: "We have made it very clear that we want to keep him, but it ultimately depends on Tottenham's offer. Maybe Tottenham's offer is not ideal for the club. I don't know the specific situation."
Guardiola finally spoke highly of Savinho: "For his age, he played a considerable amount of time last season. He can play on both wings and is incredibly fast. From this point of view, he is really outstanding."
Savinho's current contract with Manchester City runs until 2029. The new contract is expected to extend the existing framework by two years, until June 30, 2031.
