Sevilla officially announced on Sunday that 50-year-old García Pimienta has been sacked.

"Javier García Pimienta has been dismissed as Sevilla manager," the statement read. "The club has officially informed him of this decision after 31 league games in charge."

"Sevilla FC would like to thank García Pimienta for his hard work and professionalism over the past few months and wish him all the best in his future challenges."

Sevilla's performance this season is sluggish. After 31 rounds, they are ranked 14th in La Liga with 9 wins, 9 draws and 13 losses, and 36 points. They also performed poorly in the King's Cup, and were eliminated by the Spanish Second Division team Almeria after only three rounds. As the head coach, Pimienta is considered to be directly responsible for the team's current situation.

Pimienta has coached Barcelona B and Las Palmas before becoming Sevilla's head coach last summer. Under his leadership, Sevilla has only achieved 11 wins, 9 draws and 14 losses, and suffered a four-game losing streak in the league two days ago.

As for Pimienta's successor, Sevilla has now made a clear arrangement. They have decided to appoint Joaquin Caparros as interim coach until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Joaquin Caparros, 69, has extensive coaching experience and has coached Villarreal, Deportivo La Coruna, Athletic Bilbao, Real Mallorca, Levante, Granada, Osasuna, Nacional, Armenia and many other teams since 1981. He also served as the head coach of Sevilla from 2000 to 2005, and twice saved the team at the end of the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons.

According to Transfermarkt data, Caparros' coaching record in Sevilla is 101 wins, 52 draws and 69 losses.
