Jonathan David announced that his contract will expire this summer and he will leave Lille, ending his five-year career

Jonathan David released a video on social media on Wednesday, announcing that he will leave Lille after his contract expires this summer. As for his future whereabouts, it is still unknown.

In the video, David said: "Every story has a beginning and an end. I want to tell you personally that after playing for the club for many years, it is time to say goodbye to you."

"I spent five wonderful seasons at Lille. Although it was not without difficulties, I hope that my goals and celebrations brought you some happiness. Especially the Ligue 1 title and the French Super Cup, I believe they brought us infinite joy and satisfaction."

"Thank you to all my teammates, the coaching staff, the staff, the medical and technical team, the club hierarchy and everyone I have played with and shared time with over the years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have given me over the years."

"Finally, I want to thank the fans from the bottom of my heart. I know I didn't get off to the best start, but you were always there for me. You always supported me when things got tough, and I will always remember that and be grateful for all the good times we had together. It was because of your support and motivation for the team and me that we were able to have some memorable seasons. Thank you."

Jonathan David, 25, was born in Brooklyn, New York City, and moved to Ottawa, the capital of Canada, with his parents at the age of 6. He joined Gent U21 in January 2018 and made his debut for the first team in the Belgian First Division on August 4 of the same year.

In August 2020, David joined Lille from Gent for 27 million euros. He mainly plays as a center forward in Lille. So far, he has made 231 appearances, scored 109 goals and provided 30 assists, and won the Ligue 1 championship and the French Super Cup with the team.

David's contract with Lille will expire this summer, and various signs indicate that his departure is inevitable. Napoli, Inter Milan, Juventus and other European giants are reportedly interested in David, and Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Barcelona were also rumored to have had a relationship with him during the winter transfer window this year.
