After Arsenal lost 1-2 to Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final and missed the final, captain Martin Odegaard could not hide his disappointment and admitted that it was a very painful farewell.
At the beginning of the game, Odegaard almost equalized the aggregate score in the 10th minute, but his low shot was bravely saved by Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. This was just one of many key saves.
Although Arsenal's overall performance was good, they failed to seize key opportunities and eventually lost away from home, ending their European campaign this season. In a post-match interview, Odegaard said: "To be honest, this is really painful."
"We started the game very aggressively, controlled the tempo of the game and created a lot of threatening opportunities. But the game was ultimately decided in the penalty area. We were not lethal enough on both offense and defense and should not have let the opponent score easily."
This is the third time in Arsenal's history that they have reached the Champions League semi-finals. Although they failed to go further, Odegaard still hopes that the team can build on this and move forward. Odegaard said: "We must unite, persevere and learn from this failure."
"It's disappointing now, we had hoped to bring the title back to the club and the fans. But we have been through lows many times and each time we stood up stronger. This is a big blow, we can't stop here. We have to keep improving, support each other and start again."
Currently, Arsenal ranks second in the Premier League standings with 67 points. However, since Liverpool has already secured the Premier League title this season, Arsenal has no chance to compete for the title. In the next games, Arsenal will have to go all out to maintain points and ranking, and strive to secure a place in the Champions League next season.
