According to a report by the Italian media outlet La Repubblica on Sunday, AC Milan are considering signing Brazilian center-back Thiago Silva. They hope to finalize the transfer in January, and discussions have been ongoing within the club for several weeks.

AC Milan has had a decent start to the season, currently sitting third in Serie A with 22 points from 6 wins, 4 draws, and 1 loss after 11 rounds. Ahead of them are Inter Milan and Roma, both with 24 points, with Inter Milan leading on goal difference.

Despite having established starters like Matteo Gabbia, Ficayo Tomori, and Strashinja Pavlovic, as well as backups Koni de Winter and David Odgou, Milan still need to bring in a center-back during the winter transfer window due to concerns about defensive depth and age structure. Before considering Silva, Milan attempted to sign Manuel Akanji from Manchester City or Joe Gomez from Liverpool, but both attempts failed.

Silva currently plays for Fluminense, and his contract is expected to last until June 2026. Since returning to Fluminense in July 2024, the 41-year-old has made 61 appearances in all competitions, contributing 4 goals.

Besides Fluminense, Silva also played for Dynamo Moscow, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and other teams, winning numerous accolades including one Brazilian Cup, seven Ligue 1 titles, five Coupe de France titles, six Coupe de la Ligue titles, six Coupe de France titles, one UEFA Champions League title, one FIFA Club World Cup title, and one UEFA Super Cup title. He also played for AC Milan from 2009 to 2012, making 119 appearances, scoring six goals and providing two assists, winning one Serie A title and one Italian Super Cup. Notably, Massimiliano Allegri was the manager of AC Milan at that time.

This is why Silva has always had a deep affection for AC Milan. His salary is also relatively moderate compared to other top center-backs, so signing Silva will not put pressure on Milan's financial budget.
