The English Football League has officially confirmed the schedule for the 2025 summer transfer window. Affected by the newly added Club World Cup registration period, this year's transfer window will have a special three-stage structure.
According to the English Football League's announcement, the summer transfer window will be open for a total of 89 days to ensure that English clubs remain competitive in the international transfer market. The summer window is divided into three stages:
Phase 1 starts: June 1, 2025 (Sunday) to June 10, 2025 (Tuesday) at 19:00
Transitional closure period: 19:00:01 on June 10 to 00:01 on June 16 (Monday)
Second phase of restart: June 16 (Monday) to September 1 (Monday) 19:00
The six-day "transition period" was set up to accommodate FIFA's newly added registration window for the Club World Cup. The 2025 Club World Cup will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13, and 32 of the world's top clubs are expected to participate. To this end, FIFA allows member associations of participating countries to open a special registration period.
The English Football League stated in the announcement that considering the massive transfer wave that will be set off in the world's top leagues during this period, clubs at all levels in England should also have the right to participate in the market during the same period.
In order not to exceed the total transfer window duration stipulated by FIFA, the English Football League finally decided to adopt the "early open + short suspension + formal restart" model, which not only meets international rules but also guarantees the club's operating space.
The new structure means English clubs will have an advance window for the Club World Cup, allowing them to carry out early operations before the official transfer period, before fully restarting transfer work in mid-June.
