Matt Doherty believes the team must show even greater fighting spirit in the face of their current difficulties.

Wolves went into Christmas with just two points after a 0-2 defeat to Brentford at Molineux Stadium. Matt Doherty called on his Wolves teammates to step up and take responsibility for defending the club's honor instead of leaving during the January transfer window. The defender admitted it was the most frustrating period he had experienced at home in his twelve years with Wolves.
However, Matt Doherty stated that he would do everything in his power to help the team out of its predicament and called on his teammates to take initiative in the remaining games of the season to prevent Wolves from becoming one of the worst-performing teams in Premier League history.
Matt Doherty said: "We are in a very difficult situation right now. The team has suffered a big blow, but we must pick ourselves up and take action. It's not hard to admit defeat verbally, but the key is to show stronger fighting spirit in the game. We played quite well in the first 60 minutes, but after conceding a goal, things quickly got out of control, and the opponent scored again in almost the same way. It seemed too easy for them to score."
"I need to review the game footage. I haven't looked at it carefully yet, but my feeling at the time was that the ball bounced once. Apart from that, the handling was indeed not ideal, and there's not much to argue about."
"When we were in League One, we won almost every game. After being relegated to the Championship, I only stayed with the team for the second half of that season. But even so, we still managed to win some games amidst some losses. I still clearly remember how it felt to be relegated back to League One; the disappointment was intense. Although I was still with the team, my playing time was limited, and that was the worst period in my form and mood for a long time."
"You can see that the stadium was almost empty by the end of the game, and the stands weren't full when the game started. But that's not the problem. We lacked confidence to win. The team was psychologically afraid, even after taking the lead, we were worried about not being able to hold on to it. I really don't know what else to say. I can only keep working hard and try to find a solution."
“Our training has improved significantly over the past two weeks, with both intensity and overall energy levels being very good. This was evident in the match against Arsenal, where the team's competitive form has indeed rebounded. However, playing at home and facing the current situation, the players must show even stronger fighting spirit. The atmosphere at the stadium isn't very enthusiastic, and the energy on the pitch isn't high either, which we completely understand.”
"It is precisely at such crucial moments that players need to showcase their individual characteristics, take the initiative to attack, strive for possession, and remain courageous. Even if they lack confidence, they must run actively, fight hard, and pressure their opponents. As a professional player, your technical condition may not be ideal in some matches, or you may even experience a slight dip in form on a particular day, but you can still make up for it by running actively."
“We held on for about an hour, which is almost the same in every game. We played reasonably well for the first hour, but then we conceded a goal, which completely wiped out any chance of a comeback, which was naturally disappointing. Then we conceded another goal, and it felt like we were playing the same game every week.”
“In this league, you have to give it your all. Even for a player like me who has been plagued by injuries this year, it’s hard to achieve good results if someone on the team is playing with an injury. But right now, we have no choice but to continue to give it our all.”
“We need to get all the players currently on the team back to the level they were at last season, because many of them are veterans. We performed well last season and successfully avoided relegation, which was a tough time. Obviously, the current situation is more serious, but we must get back to our form, and I am no exception.”
"This is certainly easier to achieve in away games, but there's still half the season at home. We need to seriously reflect on ourselves, examine our own actions, and clarify what kind of image we want the club to be remembered for. Do we want people to remember us for fighting until the end of the season, or for choosing the cowardly and easiest way, such as wanting to leave in January, or not fighting, not training, and letting others take our place? This is a question we must seriously consider."
