With just a few days left before the start of Sevilla's pre-season, head coach Matías Almeida gave his first interview to the Sevilla club, in which he expressed his expectations for the new season and said that in order to achieve the goals, the team needs to work together on and off the field.
Matías Almeida said: "I'm counting the days and can't wait to get back to the training ground and meet the players. I already know the fans, but I hope to establish a deeper connection with them. Most importantly, the connection we have with the players will be the foundation for a good season."
“I’ve been a coach for 14 years and the only club I’ve coached was River Plate, where I started my playing career. I always wanted to return to a club where I played as a player. Now I’m very happy, excited and motivated. This is an important challenge in my career and I’m willing to commit to it because I have love, passion and dedication for everything I do.”
"This job means a lot to me because I once wore the jersey of this club. Although my coaching record is not dazzling, River Plate will always have a special place in my heart. It was the club that brought me to Europe. Now, it will be my gateway to Europe again, and I am looking forward to it."
"I am well aware that Sevilla was going through a difficult period at the time. However, the club has become one of the top teams in Europe thanks to its outstanding performance in domestic and international competitions over the years, reaching finals many times and winning international championships. Looking back over the past 20 years, Sevilla is indeed a very successful team. Like all teams, there will always be ups and downs. What we have to do is to work hard to bring the team back to that glorious period."
"Although I have never coached in Spain before, I hope to win recognition for my work. I respect everyone's opinions and understand freedom of speech in Spain. I am not here to prove anything to anyone. I just love my job, am willing to devote myself to it, and always do things honestly and desire to win."
"I don't promote myself or try to invent new theories. This is who I am and I will always remain true to myself. I understand and experience football in a unique way and understand the different cultures of various competitions. I have coached in Argentina, Mexico, the United States, Greece, and experienced many leagues. Each time is a new challenge."
"Coaching in different environments has broadened my horizons. I understand that there will be doubts from the outside world, but I will not just make empty promises. I only believe in speaking with actions. Just like every place I have been, I am willing to go deep into people's hearts and win everyone's respect with my work itself."
Matías Almeida continued: "I have a different view of pressure. With all the conflicts and wars going on in the world, the word pressure is too heavy for me and I will not use it in football."
"It's true that sometimes a club needs to go through some lows before it can rise again. This is my job, my passion, and I live for it. If I take it as pressure, I won't be able to face it with a challenging mentality. Since I left home 15 years ago, I've been used to fighting constantly."
