After 1111 days, Nicolas Sewald scored for the national team again. In stoppage time of Austria's match against Ghana, he netted the winning goal, helping his team to a resounding 5-1 victory. The goal was spectacular. A cross from the left was cleared, but fell to his feet, and he unleashed a powerful shot with the inside of his foot into the far corner.
After the match, Nicolas Sewald said, "After the ball was cleared, I had enough time to adjust. I tried to handle the ball well and succeeded. However, I don't score often, and I really didn't know what to do at that moment."
This was Nicolas Sewald's 45th international appearance for the Austrian national team, and his first goal after accumulating 3,974 minutes of playing time. His last goal was over three years ago, when he scored against LASK Linz while wearing the Red Bull Salzburg jersey.
Currently, the only goal Nicolas Sewald has yet to score is his first goal while wearing the RB Leipzig jersey. Head coach Ole Werner stated, "Everything is moving in the right direction, and it's very likely. Nicolas Sewald has developed into a true key player and a crucial member of the team."
