Nottingham Forest beat West Ham United 2-1 away, and manager Nuno Espirito Santo said the victory would be dedicated to striker Taiwo Awoniyi who is recovering in hospital.
Awoniyi was hospitalized last week due to an abdominal injury and missed the game. From preparation to pre-match mobilization, the whole team regarded this game as a mission to "fight for Taiwo". In the end, they responded to this concern with a wonderful victory.
In the post-match interview, Nuno said: "Everything today was for Taiwo. From the preparations that started last week to the final speech, everyone took him to the field. The players tried their best."
In the first half, Morgan Gibbs-White helped Forest break the deadlock; in the 61st minute of the second half, Nikola Milenkovic expanded the score to 2-0. Although Jarrod Bowen recovered a goal for the host team at the end of the game, Nottingham Forest finally withstood the pressure and took home the precious three points.
Nuno praised his players' performance, saying: "We started very well. We had some difficulties in the last few games, but today we got back on track and did what we are good at."
"We are very mature in the end, it shows our personality. The players fight for every ball, it shows the spirit of Nottingham Forest."
Nottingham Forest currently ranks 7th in the Premier League with 65 points, the same as Manchester City, which is 6th. If Nottingham Forest wants to qualify for the European Cup, it must be in the top six. However, Nottingham Forest now has one last Premier League game left, which will be against Chelsea at home on May 25.
In this regard, Nuno called on the whole team to continue the fighting spirit to the end: "In the last battle, we must go all out at home and in front of the fans. It will be a special game and we look forward to bringing the voice of the entire city into the stadium."
