CAF Official: Senegal stripped of the Africa Cup of Nations title for leaving the field; final result overturned, Morocco wins 3-0.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) issued a statement on Tuesday confirming the change of champions for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations. The appeals committee ruled in favor of Morocco, who won 3-0, after Senegal's withdrawal from the final, which led to the match's interruption, in accordance with relevant provisions of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations.

In the Africa Cup of Nations final held on January 18th local time, Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 to win their second title in club history. In the final moments of regular time, Senegalese coach Pape Thiau and some players left the field for 15 minutes to protest Morocco being awarded a penalty, but were eventually persuaded to return by captain Sadio Mane. After play resumed, Brahim Diaz's penalty was saved by Edouard Mendy, and Senegal won in extra time thanks to a crucial goal from Pape Gueye.

Following the match, the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) filed a complaint with the African Football Confederation (AFCF). Two months later, AFCF ruled, based on Articles 82 and 84 of the Regulations for African National Teams, that Senegal's exit from the final constituted an "automatic forfeit," and the championship title was awarded to the host nation, Morocco.

Following the ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) responded immediately. In their statement, they said, "The Senegalese Football Federation strongly condemns this unjust, unprecedented, and unacceptable decision, believing it damages the reputation of African football."

"In order to defend its own rights and the interests of Senegalese football, the Senegalese Football Federation will file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne as soon as possible."

"The Senegalese Football Federation reiterates its firm commitment to the values of integrity and fairness in sports and will continue to keep the public informed of the progress of this matter."
