Rennes announced on their official website on Wednesday that their new summer signing, France U21s international centre-back wonderkid Jérémy Jacquet, has dislocated his left shoulder and ruled out for the rest of the season.

According to Rennes' official statement, Jacquet will undergo reconstructive surgery on his injury in a few days, arranged by the team doctor. Due to unfavorable initial scan results, the surgery will likely end Jacquet' season prematurely.

Additionally, Jacquet has been playing with his left wrist bandaged since injuring it two months ago; surgery will also be performed on his wrist during this period.

According to French media outlet L'Équipe, despite the seemingly pessimistic outlook, Jacquet will cooperate fully with the surgery and rehabilitation process to ensure he recovers in time to complete his final few months at Rennes in top form.

This will also help his hopes of playing for his national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada this summer.

Jacquet becomes the second Liverpool player, after Japan national team captain Wataru Endo, to miss the rest of the season due to a dislocated shoulder.

Unlike Jacquet, the Japan Football Federation confirmed that Endo has successfully undergone surgery and plans to return before the World Cup.

About Jérémy Jacquet

Jacquet, who is only still 20 years old, was born on July 13, 2005, in Bondy, a northeastern suburb of Paris, France. He is 1.88 meters tall, plays as a center-back, and has Guadeloupe heritage.

Jacquet played for the youth academies of local non-league clubs in Guadeloupe as a child. In 2019, he joined Rennes' youth academy, started playing for their B team in 2022, and completed his Rennes first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in January 2024.

Two weeks later, Jacquet was loaned-out to Clermont Foot. However, after only two weeks, his excellent performances and the team's injury woes led to his early recall by Rennes.

Upon returning from his loan spell, Jacquet officially became a regular starter for Rennes' first team.

In the summer of 2025, Jacquet' outstanding performances instantly attracted fierce competition from Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool for his transfer.

Ultimately, the reigning Premier League champions successfully signed Jacquet in January 2026 for an initial fee of €60 million, plus €12 million in performance-related add-ons, totaling €72 million.

Since his debut, Jacquet has made 31 appearances for the Ligue 1 club in all competitions so far, providing one assist.
