Phil Lopez promises to be a big surprise for Wolves fans when he makes his Premier League debut this weekend at home to Manchester City. The Spanish player, manager Vitor Pereira's first summer signing, will reunite with former Celta Vigo teammate Jurgen Strand-Larsen in the club's gold and black jersey. Lopez is eager to showcase his abilities to his new club's fans in England's top flight this weekend.
Phil Lopez said: "I am very honored to be here. This is a big change for me, embarking on a foreign journey alone and experiencing a completely new culture. But so far, both the club staff and teammates have given me great support and help. Although I have only arrived for a month, I have adapted well and this place has become my second home."
“It’s an honour to be playing in the Premier League and for a club as influential as Wolves. It’s a club I know very well and the fans are so passionate. I see a lot of similarities here with Celta Vigo and the manager has high expectations of me.”
"Obviously, knowing Jürgen Strand-Larsen was an advantage for me. Since we already knew each other, I knew I wouldn't be alone here. Of course, this wasn't the main reason why I chose to join the team, but I'm very happy to be working with him again."
"In training, he often receives assists from me, and I try to find his runs. When I have the ball and face forward, my first priority is to pass it to him. Of course, if other teammates are in a better position, I will also choose to pass to them. I like to combine with him, especially the one-two pass, so that I can take advantage of the space, but I always try to find him."
"At Celta Vigo, we usually used a 3-4-3 formation, and the tactical arrangement here is very similar. I will start on the right, but I like to move closer to the center from time to time. Although my position is on the right, I don't think of myself as a traditional right winger, but more of an attacking midfielder. Therefore, the position I play here is very similar to my previous role, and the tactical system is very consistent. I am very satisfied with my role."
“For me, football is not just a sport, it’s a pleasure. I admire players who inspire me and I will do my best to perform for the Wolves supporters. Of course, my priority is to score goals, create chances and help the team win games.”
“I’ve always wanted to be a passionate and energetic player, and I think that comes from my experience playing futsal as a kid. Back then, my friends and I would often play in the park, and I spent a lot of time playing football, which was very important to my development.”
“Last week’s match not only allowed me to say goodbye to Celta Vigo, but also gave me the opportunity to play at Molineux for the first time, which is very exciting. Although we didn’t win, it was still an unforgettable experience. But the more important games are just beginning now .”
"The Premier League is obviously more physical than La Liga, and there are many differences between the two leagues. La Liga focuses more on calm ball possession and tactical execution. I know it will take time for me to adapt to the new environment, but I will do my best to integrate into the rhythm of the league as soon as possible."
“Obviously, the style of football here is very different to what I’m used to, but the players have shown incredible talent. The quality of the squad, both the new arrivals and the rest of the team, is fantastic. We have a great squad and I’m confident we’ll achieve good results.”
