Rennes have officially announced the signing of Fenerbahce midfielder Sebastian Szymanski. He will wear the number 17 jersey at Rennes and will sign a contract until June 30, 2029.

Regarding Szymanski's transfer fee, various media outlets have different reports. RMC journalist Fabrice Hawkins believes the final transaction price was €10 million. Others suggest the transfer fee was €9 million plus €2 million in add-ons.

The 26-year-old Szymanski is from Poland and joined Fenerbahce in July 2023 for €10.7 million. To date, he has made 134 appearances for Fenerbahce, scoring 22 goals and providing 30 assists, and has won one Turkish Super Cup with the team.

Besides Fenerbahce, Szymanski also played for Legia Warsaw, Dynamo Moscow, and Feyenoord. During this time, he made 212 appearances across all competitions, contributing 29 goals and 37 assists, and won two Polish Eredivisie titles, one Polish Cup title, and one Dutch Eredivisie title with his teams.

Regarding Szymanski's arrival, Rennes sporting director Loïc Desiree commented: "He can play in multiple positions, which is exactly the type of player our team desperately needs. We have been looking for a player who can create threats in the attacking third and break the deadlock. His crosses and set pieces are very accurate."

De Sciglio also praised Rennes defender Przemysław Frankowski, who facilitated the transfer: "We also have an excellent ambassador, Franki, who has presented a positive image of the club to Sebastián. It is crucial that the players enjoy a wonderful life at the club and in our beautiful region."

Szymanski said: "It's been a long day, and I'm so happy to finally join Rennes. My new life in France is about to begin, and it feels incredible – I can't wait to explore the city and the club. I'm really enjoying interacting with the staff. I'm excited to play in Ligue 1; it's a very competitive league, and I'm eager to succeed here."
