Crystal Palace released a statement on Tuesday announcing that they had parted ways with captain Joel Ward this summer. As for Ward's future whereabouts, it is still unknown.

The 35-year-old Joel Ward was born in Emsworth, England, and mainly plays as a right back. He made his professional debut for Portsmouth in April 2010, and has since played in three Premier League games and 86 Championship games with the team.

In July 2012, Ward transferred from Portsmouth to Crystal Palace for 650,000 euros. He played for Crystal Palace for 13 years and has played 363 times so far, scoring 6 goals and providing 10 assists.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish expressed regret over Ward's departure and said in a statement: "From the first day he joined Crystal Palace, Joel has been an outstanding representative of the club: cheerful, friendly and professional, with a strong fighting spirit and drive, and uncompromising in the standards he sets for himself."

"Put simply, Joel has been a role model for every Crystal Palace player for 13 years: his values, his on-pitch conduct and his dedication to representing the club with pride."

“This is a great time to celebrate Joel’s achievements and to reminisce the many wonderful memories with a truly cherished player and friend.”

"I wish Joel all the best in his next journey. Thank you."

Ward later responded: "It is a great honour for me to wear the Crystal Palace shirt and represent the club."

“It’s been an incredible journey filled with countless great memories and unforgettable moments – moments that will stay with me for the rest of my life.”

"Although I come from somewhere else, I have been at Crystal Palace for so many years that I already consider myself a member of this big family."

He concluded: "This is not a farewell, but a 'see you later'."
