Liverpool secured a 4-1 victory over Barnsley at Anfield in the third round of the 2025/26 FA Cup, thanks to goals from Szoboszlai, Frimpong, Wirtz, and Ekittiq. However, Liverpool defender Robertson stated that the Reds still have much room for improvement in various aspects.
After defeating Barnsley, Liverpool have remained unbeaten in 11 games across all competitions and are currently fourth in the Premier League standings with 35 points, 14 points behind first-placed Arsenal. Therefore, qualifying for the Champions League has become one of the most realistic goals for Sloot's team.
When asked if the 11-game unbeaten run would bring anything more positive, Scottish star Andrew Robertson said, "I think we still need to do better in some games. Of course, we could have done better in some games, such as the home draws against Leeds United and Sunderland, which we should have won. But at the same time, we also got a draw at the Emirates Stadium and a win at the San Siro, which were not easy games at all."
"It's certainly good to be unbeaten in 11 consecutive games, but it's not all bad. We've stopped our previous slump, which is always gratifying. But we still need to improve our performance, and I think everyone understands that, which is exactly what we're working on."
Regarding the performance against Barnsley, Robertson said, "I don't think it was a particularly outstanding game, but we did show some strength at certain moments, which is something a team has to do in any game. The goals were all very exciting and showcased individual ability. But if we want to go further in this competition, we have to play much better than we did in this game."
“I think Barnsley played very well. They played with confidence, had a clear game plan, and caused us some trouble, but that’s not a good thing. Perhaps that’s the charm of cup competitions, and the kind of performance fans want to see at home.”
Robertson added, "We just don't want to see this happen, and unfortunately, we've seen it a few times in recent matches. But anyway, we're happy to advance to the next round."
